As I think about trees, I remember climbing the little one in the front yard of the casita. Beautiful memories of a beautiful place. Hasta pronto!

I grew up with what we called “sulfur water” and mom still has it. And now that I live among the birch, I love carrying the imagery of this poem. Thank you.

Yes, I recently heard someone else talk about "sulfur water." It's that smell that I still so deeply remember.

It leaves me with memories of camp from long ago and a longing to go back to those sites with those friends to eat smores at campfires long burned out. Ah, childhood memories, sleeping bags, pine trees, well water, camp-songs and bug juice.

I'm realizing this season just how much the scents and sounds of fall hold emotion and memory.

I love the idea of connecting to nature through a single, well-placed tree. Nature in total can be quite daunting, but a single tree seems more relatable. And now that I think about it, the relatively young, but now immense Yoshino Cherry in our back yard might just be that tree for me!

Your backyard is a beautiful oasis. Would love to know what the Cherry tree has to teach.

Without over-thinking it too much, here’s what that tree says to me. In the context of our yard, she has a very positive impact on the space that she occupies. And there’s every reason to think she’ll continue to flourish. But, in the broader context, she’s just another tree. She contributes positively to the world at large, but in a very modest way. And lastly, her life has a beginning, a middle and an end. I should aspire for this same description - Positively impactful in my own “yard”, but really just one among billions on the global scale, and that’s a meaningful existence.

I have a very large Birch tree in my front yard. It is about 25 plus feet tall. It is about 40 plus’s years old. Actually it is three trees fused together. There are about 6 shoots grown around it now. I LOVE this tree. I gaze at each day and tell it how beautiful it is. I like to pick up the fallen pieces of birch peels also. I also have a Hugh maple tree neR the corner of the front yard. I have lots of trees around my home. It looks like a mini forest in the back yard. I love siting on. Y swing in the back yard surrounded by the beauty of the trees.

Not sure if it is considered wild, but I have two books that I am planning on writing. It is in the embryo stages. Love your essays. Much love. Cheryl W. XO
