I shared at this week’s Wednesdays at the Well that I am going back to the classroom this summer. The classroom is part of a summer cohort offered by The Good Listening Project to become a “certified listener poet.” It’s been a while since I’ve been this excited about learning and listening.
Over the last year, I have done a good bit of storytelling, which has also created amazing opportunities to listen to the stories of others. I’ve been learning how storytelling is a give and take, a double circle, requiring both a willing voice and a receptive ear.
I want to be a better listener to others, to myself, to Creation. I long to listen more compassionately and openly, less judgmentally and skeptically. I seek to listen without planning a response or preparing a rebuttal. I desire to listen with all my senses.
Today’s Friday Field Trip is a poem about listening. Taking us deeper into our imagination. Inviting us to engage all our senses.
Read and listen to the poem below.
Thank you for listening! I give thanks for your presence and for the stories you have shared, are sharing, and will one day share with the world.
